Little River Canyon National Preserve follows the course of the Little River as it runs along the top of Lookout Mountain. This high-flowing river offers a wealth of scenic attractions, including waterfalls and pools as well as deeply carved sandstone cliffs standing up to 600 feet above the waterline. Surrounded by a lush forest that contains an abundance of wildlife, the park can be explored many different ways. An 11-mile-long scenic road follows the course of the river, with pullouts for scenic overlooks, picnic spots and trailheads. To get the full park experience, take at least a short hike down to the river itself. Just north of the main preserve is the park's backcountry area, offering primitive campgrounds and open for activities including ATV riding and horseback riding. The park is only a few miles north of Weiss Lake near the Georgia state border, only an 11-mile drive south from Fort Payne.
Open daily sunrise - sunset. Limited backcountry camping allowed Feb - Sep.
